Domestic waste water treatment

Domestic waste water treatment

This is the treatment of the waste water that are not connected to the main sewer.
Usually, we found this kind of system (septic tank, spreading…) in the countryside because it is suitable for isolate houses. Defective, those systems can be a risk for the health and the environment. That is the reason why the systems have to be often maintain and inspect and to be update, if necessary.

Waste water, what is it?

Whether in the kitchen, bathroom or toilets, we produce waste water that must be traited before discharge into the natural environment.

There are different types of waste water:

- the fat water is produce in the kitchen
- Grey water in the bathroom and laundry
- Blackwater come from the flush toilet. The three together are domestic
waste water. Recall that before clean up our waste, it is more important to reduce pollution at source: use eco-friendly detergents...
Sanitation has two main functions: to improve salubrity and protect the environment. The water pollution impact depends on its importance and the environment. Work also has an impact on the environment, it is called life cycle assessment.

Waste water pollution

For the primary pollution we do a primary treatment or pre-treatment: it includes the pollutants which are filterable, decantable and isolable in a physical way.

For the secondary pollution we do a secondary treatment: it is the organic pollution largely soluble which can be biologically treated with bacteria.

For the tertiary pollution we do a tertiary treatment: it is the inorganic pollution, mainly nitrates and phosphates may be biologically treated (by plants absorption) or physico-chemical treated.

The quaternary pollution includes all pathogens germ and micropollutants (pesticides, heavy metals ...)

Whatever sanitation treatment, it is always the bacteria that purify by consuming pollutants nutrients.
